Why I’ve decided to start a blog
Today is a big day. I’ve been thinking about starting a blog for a long time, but I’ve finally gotten around to doing it. This first post should serve as my mainfesto of sorts, helping me stay true to my original intentions in the years to come.
It’s been a while that I’ve been kicking around the idea of starting a blog. About a year ago I got serious about it and had someone help me create a custom design and code it up. I’m quite nerdy about website design. But then for one reason or another I never quite got around to starting it. It was probably mainly work. But also no doubt some inertia. In any case here I am, writing my first post of what I hope will be many to come.
So why have I decided to start writing a blog? I actually think this is an important question to which I’m keen to give an answer. Because in a way this answer should act as my guiding light going forward. Hopefully, in years to come, this post will help remind me of why I started this blog, and make sure I stay the course.
There are fundamentally three reasons why I’ve decided to do this:
- I like writing. It’s fun, and in some ways it’s also therapeutic.
- Writing helps me organize my thoughts and forces me to think things through properly. If its out in the open, I can’t write things, or express an opinion, without substantiating it to a certain extent.
- Writing helps me understand things better. For the same reasons described above.
- It might serve as a way to communicate and share my thoughts about certain issues in a more effective manner (i.e. I’ll send someone something I’ve written about a particular topic rather than having to verbally communicate which can be challenging in certain circumstances)
